Media representation
choices made when it comes to portraying something or someone in a mass media text. Its impossible to portray every aspect so certain features are often highlighted.

Media Audience
audience is the term used to mean the people that watch, read, buy or listen to a media product

Media Institutions
company or organisation that is accountable for a media text. The company could be accountable in may ways some examples are

• production
• regulation
• marketing
• distribution

examples of institutions are

• The Walt Disney Company
• Time Warner
• BskyB
• BBC
• ITV

Media Language

how the media produces its meaning of a story. its all about how the media interoperates a story and also how it comes across to a audience. There are 3 ways a story can come across to its audience

Dominant reading- what the creator intends

Negotiated reading- a middle ground between creators intentions and personal views

Oppositional readings- an alternative reading against the creators view

Denotation- Describing what you can see in detail

Connotation- associated or suggested meanings that photo/ images / text may have

Media Conventions- characteristics that goes into making a media form distinguishable 

Genre- the type of media. conventions help us to identify the genre of the media product
e.g horror= scary, dark and grim

Media Text- a specific media product

Media Form- Type of media a text is using to communicate 
e.g the sun is a newspaper

Magazine content

In my magazine there would be basic information of the school such as maybe a contact details for the school and recent ofsted reviews. It could also include recent exam results (GCSE and A-Level) included detailed statistics on exam results. Other things the magazine could include is a special section for each year group and parents. term dates and dates for your diary could also be included.

Planning of Photo shoot

• One idea i have  is to take a photo of a year 9 student in the corridors  the shot will be a MCU.
• another idea is of some students walking out of school (Long shot)
• student working in the library on the computer (CU/MCU)
• students opening results (long shot)
• students with their teacher (long shot)

Contents Page 2

this is another version of a contents page I created. I really like the obvious house style that has been created using a mixture of colours and fonts. The headline really stands out which will help attract readers. To improve my contents page i might add more images relating to the articles.

final contents page

this is my final edit of my contents page. i think its good however it could be improved by all the students in images making eye contact with the camera. by doing this it may edit the order of visual syntax because the reader will automatically be drawn to the images eyes.

my first contents page

this is my first draft of the contents page the words  contents is at the top of the page this is one of the conventions of a contents page. This page has a clear house style using the colours red white and black. I like that the page numbers stand out so it alerts the reader what page the article is on.

I used grids and guidelines when creating my template this gave it a professional feel. Also I like that there is a main image at the bottom but I think it would improve the magazine contents page if I included smaller images too so that also attracted the reader

This is an example of a contents page I made. The good thing about this is that it has a good text to graphics ratio so it’ll draw the reader’s attention. However it the subscription note will be small so it won’t draw the reader’s attention. I used guide lines and a grid to get the most consistent look i could

Final Magazine front cover

This is my final front cover I have improved it from one of my previous versions. One of the improvements I have done is to add a banner behind my cover lines. I done this so that the text could be seen more easily and stood out more. Its important that the cover lines can be seen easily because it will help persuade a reader to read the article. Another improvement I done was to add a pug. I added it to to the top right side of the image so its not inhibiting any key factors in the image.

this is another example of a magazine front cover I created. What I like about this front cover is that the headline is very eye catching which is good because it will appeal to people to watch. Another thing I like is that it has a very obvious house style which consists of colours, fonts and graphics. A good house style makes a front cover look more professional which helps it appeal to customers. A negative about this magazine front cover is that the cover lines cant be seen very well because the background is so vibrant  I way I could overcome this problem would be to add a banner at the back of it and adjust the transparency.

This is another magazine front cover i produced. a good thing about it this cover is that it includes a pug which helps to attract readers and also a good thing is the background of the image is clear so the text stands out more. However the image isn't good because not all the students are looking into the camera so the readers eyes isn't automatically drawn into anything. Also my headline is covering one of the students faces. I could improve this by moving the image up or the headline down. Another way i could improve the front cover is by adding a stroke to the pug.

This is another magazine front cover i produced. Again it has some good and bad points. A good point is the the image background is plain so it helps draw attention to the text. Also a good thing is the headlines are very eye catching. this is because the text is bold, made bigger and where appropriate the text has been made capitalized  Some thing i don't like is that i haven't used a pug. in my next magazine i will create a pug to make it more eye catching.Another thing i might do is is add a stroke to the banner at the bottom to make it more eye catching

this is my first draft of a magazine front cover. I like how the background of the image is very plain so the readers eyes are drawn to the text and not distracted by the background. I also like how the banner at the bottom of the magazine is very persuasive to attract the readers to read more. however some improvements i might add is a more eye catching pug, i could make it more eye catching by adding colour or bigger text. I could also add a lure to make it more appealing to the target audience and also by adding the lure i would be following the key concepts of a magazine

School magazine photos

One idea I have is to take photos around school of students. I'm going to take photos of students in lessons, in the playground, in their breaks and in the schools library   I'm doing this because the magazine is about students and the school and the image will show that. I'm going to try to keep the background/ setting as simple as possible this is to allow the the to be seen if its used as the front cover. 

Magazine audience

The audience of my magazine is school pupils aged between 11-18 this is because pupils that attend Plantsbrook is between that age range. the students are interested in what's happening in their school so its important its something they want to read. To help appeal to my target audience I will use modern fonts, bright colours and lots of other features
